Rahul Gandhi should get farmers’ loans waived in Congress ruled states: BJP

New Delhi: Ridiculing Rahul Gandhi for his claims that farmers’ loans will be waived “within 10 days” of Congress forming a government in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP on Thursday dared the Congress vice-president to first waive the loans in those states where the is in power.

“If he is so concerned about the plight of farmers, let him initiate the process of waiver of loans in states where his party is still in power. We know that very few Congress-ruled states are left in the country. And precisely for this reason, it must not be a huge task for the Congress vice-president,” UP BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya said.

He said Rahul Gandhi “seems to be hallucinating” and his claims are “laugable”.

“He knows his party cannot form a government in the state and hence he will never face a situation where people will be expecting him to fulfil his electoral promise”, Maurya said.

The BJP state president also lashed out at the Samajwadi Party government in the state over the re-induction of tainted minister Gayatri Prajapati into the cabinet and claimed “the episode proves that Akhilesh Yadav is neither mazboot (strong) nor majboor (weighed down by political compulsions).

“He is simply the most ‘asaphal’ (ineffectual) Chief Minister UP has ever had and he and his family members, who control the ruling party, will be punished by the people of the state in the assembly polls,” he said.

Asserting that BJP will “surprise” all with its performance in the Assembly polls in UP, he said the people are “fed up” with the ruling SP and Mayawati’s BSP which was in power previously and “did little except indulging in rampant corruption.
