Rahul Gandhi to sound Congress’ poll bugle in Assam

New Delhi : Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will launch his party’s poll campaign in Assam tomorrow to ensure that the winning momentum continues in the Tarun Gogoi-ruled state, where the BJP poses a major challenge this time.

During his two day visit, the Congress vice-president will be addressing a public meeting and interact with the booth workers in Sonitpur district and women workers in Lakhimpur district.

He will also reportedly interact with leaders of the tea garden labourers community in Sivasagar besides the Youth Congress leaders.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has been projected by the BJP as its chief ministerial candidate.

BJP president Amit Shah, who visited Assam last week, blamed the Congress government in the state for the continuing infiltration from Bangladesh and said that the BJP was determined not to let the illegals infringe upon the rights of people in Assam and the Bodoland region.

He also said Assam had been left behind on the development front the past 15 years when the Congress was in power.

The BJP president termed the alliance between his party and the Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) a historic one and said it will go a long way in ensuring development in the state. (ANI)
