Rahul Gandhi’s ‘gyan’ to PM: ‘You represent nation, not BJP’

New Delhi, July 23 (ANI): Hitting out at the government for its adamant stand on refusing to let its “tainted” ministers resign, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said it is high time that Prime Minister Narendra Modi understands that he does not represent the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but the nation.

“We want to give him a suggestion that you are the Prime Minister of India and not the Prime Minister of the Bharatiya Janata Party…you need to listen to the voice of the nation. The public is asking you what do you think about this. Taking action is another thing, just tell us what do you (PM Modi) think?” asked Gandhi.

“We have said here no discussion without resignation. Sushma Swaraj is the minister of the government who, the country knows, has done a criminal act. When you do a criminal act, you go to jail. The External Affairs Minister is going around the Government of India and saying please release this man (Lalit Modi). The Chief Minister of Rajasthan (Vasundhara Raje) has done that. Here she is helping the gentleman,” he added.

The Congress vice-president also reminded Prime Minister Modi of the promises that he had made to the nation before the Lok Sabha polls.

“The Prime Minister had assured the nation during election campaigns that ‘na main khaoonga na khaane doonga’. By keeping silent, his credibility is going down. I am admitting this in front of you, that the less he speaks the better it is for me,” he said.

Meanwhile, both Houses of Parliament are witnessing repeated adjournments as a united opposition is firm on its demand that the government must sack the tainted ministers. (ANI)
