Rahul turning Congress ideology on its head: BJP

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday slammed Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for supporting those students in JNU, who are protesting against the arrest of varsity’s students’ union leader, saying that the latter had turned Congress ideology on its head.

“He (Rahul Gandhi) believes that the government is supposed to stand as a mute spectator to such blatant anti-national slogans. And when action is taken against it, and investigation is going on, is that anti-national?,” BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli told ANI.

“Mr. Rahul Gandhi certainly seems to have turned the Congress ideology on its head, from the days of fighting against anti-national forces to now. This is an astounding new definition of nationalism,” he added.

Amid the ongoing controversy following the arrest of JNU student union president Kanhaiya Kumar, Gandhi, in a veiled attack on the BJP, alleged that most anti-national people are those suppressing the voice of students.

He also lambasted the Centre over JNUSU president arrest, saying it is terrified of people raising their voices.

His remarks came after the arrest of JNU students’ union president Kumar in a sedition case over a protest event at the campus against hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, which sparked massive outrage among students.
