Religious labeling worst disservice to any language: Mohammed Ali Baig

Noted theatre personality Padmashree Mohammed Ali Baig said that the language and religion are two separate spheres one influencing the other but not controlling each other. It would be disservice to a language if it gets strongly associated with a particular religion.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the valedictory session of two-day conference (February 17 and 18) on Language, Literature and Society—Influences and Counter Influences—he said one can win hearts by using polite language. His speech focused on simplification of language with the objective of achieving effective communication.

Dr Shugufta Shaheen, Head of the English Department, welcomed the guests and thanked the participants. “The participation of people like Mohammed Ali Baig has given a practical dimension to the conference,” she said.
