Rijiju participates I-Day prog in Ladakh

Leh:Union minister Kiren Rijiju today participated in Independence day celebrations at the icy heights of Ladakh along the Sino-Indian border and flagged in a special cycle rally of para-athletes.

He honoured and received the BSF para-cycling expedition team, which participated in the ‘Tiranga Yatra’, and reached Khardoongla in Ladakh.

The ‘Tiranga Yatra’, which started on August 5 in Shimla, culminated at Khardoongla after travelling through some of the highest points along the Himalayan ranges, being guarded by Indian security forces.

Rijiju, the Minister of State for Home, was appreciative of the efforts of BSF in taking the initiative in the field of empowerment of disabled who took part in the para-athlete cycling expedition.

He applauded the Infinity Ride Team-2016 for their resolute commitment to the cause.

Rijiju said the achievement of conquering Himalayan heights by para-athletes in the Infinity Ride will set an example to the whole nation.

“Nation owes its responsibility towards the members of the Force who sacrifice their lives or limbs during the course of duty in protecting the nation. These are the icons with extraordinary capabilities. “I am proud of all the paramilitary soldiers and officers who have participated in the expedition,” he said.

Additional Director General of BSF A P Maheshwari, in his address, said the BSF as a force is committed to the cause of disabled and this would definitely send the message across the nation that they have the potential to cross all the hurdles and perform much more than the ordinary.

MP of Leh Thupstan Tsewang graced that occasion along with DC and SSP of Leh.

The programme was part of the 70th Independence Day celebrations initiated by the Modi government.
