Rio Olympics: India’s women challenge in shooting ends as Heena Sidhu bows out

Rio de Janeiro (Brazil): India’s wait for its first medal in Rio Olympics continued on Day four as shooter Heena Sidhu failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the Women’s 25m pistol event here at the Rio de Janeiro’s Olympic Shooting Complex located in Deodoro Park cluster.

The 2013 World Cup Gold medallist notched up a total of 286 (95, 96, 96) points out of a possible 300 in the 30-shot precision round before she accumulated 290 points in the rapid fire segment to finish the competition at 18th place.

Heena, who had qualified for the Rio Games after winning the gold in the Asia qualifiers, had earlier failed to progress to the final of the 10m air pistol held as well.

With her dismissal, India’s women challenge in shooting also ended today. Heena’s compatriots Ayonika Paul and Apurvi Chandela had also failed to make it to the finals of the 10m air rifle event on Saturday. (ANI)
