Rise in molestation incidents: MBBS girl student molestated in JK, shutdown observed today

Leh: A shutdown was today observed in Leh by political parties against the alleged molestation of an MBBS student by a senior faculty member at the Government Medical College in Jammu, demanding the immediate termination of the accused and appointment of a special prosecutor in the case.

The protest was organised by Ladakh Regional Joint Action Committee, comprising youth wings of the Ladakh Buddhist Association, Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam, Anjuman Imamia, and BJP and Congress in Leh district.

The market in Leh district was shut down in protest against the alleged molestation of the final year student. The committee later submitted a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to regional authorities at Leh.

They demanded the setting up of a fast-track court, an SIT to probe the matter and appointment of a special prosecutor.

Jammu and Kashmir government on January 3 suspended the accused Bhupesh Khajuria, Professor, Department of Forensic Medicine, a week after he was booked for molesting the girl.

He was booked following a written complaint by the girl.

In her complaint, the girl alleged that Khajuria called her to his room to discuss the result of her examination and tried to molest her.

The state government’ suspension order has said Khajuria will remain attached to the Directorate of Health Service, Jammu, during the the period of investigation. But the protesters have sought his immediate termination.
