New Delhi: The ruling AAP today shot back at the opposition a day after it cleared the Jan Lokpal Bill, saying the move had baffled BJP and the Congress even as their leaders claimed that the anti-graft draft was okayed despite objections of top officials and without the Lt Governor’s nod.
“Some political parties are now feeling threatened with the nod to the Jan Lokpal Bill by the Cabinet. Leaders of BJP are specially feeling uncomfortable and fear that their wrong deeds, especially in institutions like the MCDs, will be exposed and a lot of people will end up behind bars,” said AAP’s Delhi secretary, Dilip Pandey.
The ruckus created by BJP in the Assembly and the repeated hindrance to stall the Jan Lokpal Bill is a sign of “discomfort and fear” in the opposition party, he added.
Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta, accompanied by BJP MLAs OP Sharma and Jagdish Pradhan met LG Najeeb Jung in this regard even as Delhi Congress said that the ruling party lacks “intentions” to pass the Bill in its “undiluted” form.
Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken also claimed that Delhi government passed the Bill without any “Cabinet note” even as he demanded that its previous version should be adhered to that was tabled during the previous stint of AAP in power.
“The BJP MLAs are now at the door of the LG, asking him to stall the Bill. Whom are they trying to protect by stalling the passage of the Jan Lokpal Bill? What is the meaning of BJP trying to engage the LG to undermine an elected government, which has all right to make laws for the people of the state which it rules.
“There are many many skeletons in the cupboard of BJP and Congress leaders. AAP government has resolved to bring every corrupt person to book. Some people seem to be afraid of that,” Pandey said.
BJP today asked the AAP government to put the Cabinet note on the Jan Lokpal Bill in the public domain, claiming that the draft was cleared despite “objections” of top officials and accused it of not taking the Lt Governor’s nod for tabling the Bills.
Following the Cabinet nod yesterday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the Bill will be tabled in the Assembly soon while Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the Business Advisory Committee will take a call on when to table the Bill.
