Road Safety Clubs in Educational institutions: Min

Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy today said that the government will open up road safety clubs in educational institutions to prevent road accidents in the state.

Launching a road safety club at a Saint Martin Engineering College at Dulapally along with MP Malla Reddy as part of road safety week, the minister exhorted the youth and voluntary organizations to come forward to prevent road accidents. Expressing concern over the increasing number of fatalities due to road accidents, he said that road safety clubs will prove handy as awareness will be created among the students. He said that the people should stop drunk drive and take all precautions by having traffic sense, decreasing speed, reckless driving and youth.  Students should be wary of the accidents which can be avoided by following traffic and road safety norms he aid adding that driving training centes will be opened to avoid the accidents in the state on the lines of one in Siricilla. Efforts will be made to enhance state brand image by creating awareness through clubs to be opened from schools to university level as per the wish of KCR to make Telangana accident-free state. Wearing helmet and seat belt will make the people  and youth follow road safety measures the minister said.

Mahender Redy said that of 5 lakh road accidents across the nation 1.50 lakh people are dying in road accidents including 7000 fatalities out of 20000 accidents in the state. Most of the deceased are youth in 18 to 22 years age group and their deaths causing irreparable loss to the state and the nation he said. The state has 88 lakhs of vehicles and increasing day by day. The government is spending Rs 26 cr for transport wing to have own buildings, facilities and infrastructure he claimed. He said that “No helmet no petrol” and “No helmet- no office” norm in Adilabad giving positive results he said adding that accident spots and prone areas are found on state and national highways and steps being taken to check the accidents. Stating that cashless transactions encouraged in transport wing Mahender Reddy claimed that Telangana stands ideal by extending M Valet services to 20 lakh people. (NSS)
