Roads repair on war-footing: Tummala

In the wake of heavy rains causing much damage to the roads and bridges in the state, Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageshwar Rao today directed the officials to conduct road repairs on a war-footing.

At a review meeting with officials he took stock of the damaged roads, bridges and breakage of lakes due to unprecedented rains lashing out the city and many districts across the state. It was estimated a Rs 10 cr loss occurred due damage of the roads and is likely to increase as heavy rains are expected for five more days. With his directive the staff plunged into action to repair the roads and bridges at some places. Roads and bridges badly hit due to heavy rains include Medak, Nizamabad, Ranga Reddy and Naglonda districts.

In the remaining districts national highways and roads were completed damaged due to the heavy rains he said. Officials informed that the repair works are not possible now as the roads causeways and bridges were completely damaged including at Kagna in Ranga Reddy, Kaulas in Nizamabad and Musi in Nalgonda districts. They also said that they can take up repair works once the rains come down. (NSS)
