Robbers gang busted, five arrested

New Delhi: A gang of robbers, who allegedly broke open an ATM machine and looted money from the ATM kiosk in southwest Delhi’s Bindapur area, has been busted with the arrest of five persons, police said today.

The accused have been identified as Mohammad Burhan alias Chhota Don (20), a native of Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir who came to Delhi around two months ago looking for a job, and his associates Amandeep (19), Ravinder (20), Satish (21) and Prince (18), all residents of Uttam Nagar and Vikas Nagar areas in west Delhi, police said.

According to police, the incident took place on the wee hours yesterday when the police received a call and Chhota Don was caught red-handed pointing his toy gun on the ATM kiosk’s security guard. He led the police to his associates who had made away with the cash and later the police recovered Rs 32,600 from their possession.

Further investigation revealed that Burhan had come to Delhi looking for a job around two months ago. He rented a room in Uttam Nagar with a fellow villager and there he befriended the others, later forming a gang and earning the moniker Chhota Don.

The gang purchased rods and crowbars with which they broke open the ATM machine and a toy gun with which they threatened the guard. The police are investigating if the gang was involved in other robberies in nearby areas, a senior official said.
