Robbers loot Rs 4.5 lakh cash kept in car

Phagwara: A man was allegedly robbed of Rs 4.5 lakh cash by unidentified persons who broke windowpanes of his car and looted the amount kept in it, police said here today.

In his complaint to police, Prabhraj Singh, a resident of New Satnampura here, said that he had withdrawn Rs 4.5 lakh from a bank on National Highway 1 here yesterday and kept it in his car, DSP Manpreet Singh Dhillon said.

He then drove to another branch on Phagwara-Hoshiarpur Road to get a bank statement. Upon his return five minutes later he found the windowpanes of the car broken and the money missing, he said.

According to the locals, two to three bike-borne persons looted the cash from the car by breaking its windowpanes and fled from the spot, the DSP said.

A case under Sections 379 (punishment for theft) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the IPC was registered against the unknown robbers, Dhillon said, adding CCTV footages available with the of the bank was taken into possession for investigation.
