Rs 109 cr sanctioned for Kalwakurty lift: Niranjan

Lashing out at previous governments for deliberately ignoring the irrigation projects of Palamur district, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman G Niranjan Reddy today said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has given administration sanction of Rs 109 crore for completion of Ghanpur branch canal under Kalwakurty lift scheme to bring 25000 acres in 23 villages under irrigation by next June.

Addressing a press conference along with Home Minister N Narsimha Reddy at Secretariat here, Niranjan said about half of the Kalwakurthy project will be completed by end of December and the rest by next June. With this, the long cherished dreams of Palamur people will become true, he felt. The villages to get irrigation waters include Wanaparty, Killa Ghanapuram, Devarkadra, Peddamandadi, Addakul and others.

Ridiculing Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for failing to develop Palamur after its adoption, Niranjan alleged that Telugu Desam chief was coming in the way of projects in the Telangana State. He expressed displeasure at the previous Congress and Telugu Desam Governments for depriving the Palamur district of irrigation projects. He said Palamur scheme, the brain-child of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, will be completed on time. Though land acquisition process was on and compensation offered to the victims, the former Telugu Desam MLA of the region was creating hurdles, he alleged. He maintained that the Irrigation Minister entrusted him with the job to focus on the speedy completion of these projects. He extended thanks to KCR and Harish Rao for their keenness to complete the projects and make parched lands of Palamur green in three-and-a-half years by completing the projects. (NSS)
