Over Rs. 29 Lakh In New Currency Seized, 2 Held

TURA: Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday seized Rs. 29 lakh new currency notes from two persons in the Garo hills region post demonetisation move by the Centre.

The duo was headed to Gasuapara in South Garo hills from Assam with the notes, a BSF official said.

Both the accused are residents of Mankachar in South Salmara district of Assam and were taking the money to a coal exporter, he said.

The seized money had a large number of notes in Rs. 2000 denomination along with new Rs. 500 and Rs. 100 notes, the official said adding their mobile phones along with the vehicle they were travelling in has also been seized.

Acting on a tip off, an operation was launched and the duo were held.

The amount of money seized was first of it’s kind in the region, the official added.
