Rs.753 Cr allocated under Plan for BC Students Fee Reimbursement in 2016-17

Hyderabad: A sum of Rs.753.31 crore has been allocated under Plan during the year 2016-17 towards Reimbursement of Tuition Fee to Backward Class students in Telangana State. Towards Post Matric scholarships to B C Students, Rs.354.08 crore has been allocated for the year.
This was stated by the Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Jogu Ramanna, in the ‘outcome budget 2016-17’ presented in the Legislative Assembly. A sum of Rs.2537.51 crore has been earmarked for BC Welfare for the year. The Minister said that the objectives of the Government are to increase the access to Education and improve the career prospects, to eradicate poverty through economic support schemes, and to reduce social inequalities and promote Social Cohesion (unity).
Some of the salient points made by the Minister are as follows: A sum of Rs.753.31 crore has been allocated under Plan during 2015-16 towards Reimbursement of Tuition Fee to BC students, and Rs.466.05 crore was released. A total of 771209 students registered in ePass Website. Towards Post-Matric Scholarships to BC students, Rs.354.08 crore was allocated during the year 2015-16, and Rs.269.85 crore has been released. Total 771209 students registered in ePass Website.
An amount of Rs.252 crore has been allocated under Plan during the year 2016-17 towards Reimbursement of Tuition Fee to EBC students. During 2015-16, Rs.252 crore has been allocated under Plan towards Reimbursement of Tuition Fee to EBC students and Rs.124.43 crore is released. Total number of 99096 students registered in ePass Website.
Kalyana Lakshmi
In pursuance of its vision of development of the BC classes and in particular the unmarried girls belonging to these classes who are the disadvantaged section of the Society, Government of Telangana has introduced the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme to the BC/EBC girls on their marriage with a view to alleviate financial distress in the family. Under the scheme, financial assistance of Rs.51,000 shall be granted to every BC/EBC girl, at the time of marriage, from 2016-17. A sum of Rs.300 crore has been allocated under Plan, for this scheme, which will benefit 58,820 BC/EBC girls. (NSS)
