Saina, Sindhu advance to second round of Malaysia Open

Shah Alam (Malaysia): Ace Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu produced contrasting performances to advance to the second round of the women’s singles event of the Malaysia Open Super Series Premier in Shah Alam on Wednesday.

World number six Nehwal, who made a semifinal finish at the India Open last week, grabbed a 21-16, 21-7 win over Thailand opponent Nitchaon Jindapol in the opening round contest that lasted 30 minutes.

Sindhu, the two-time bronze medallist at World Championship, defeated He Bingjiao of China 21-16 21-17 in another women’s singles clash.

However, it turned out to be a disappointing day for the Indian men as Rio Olympics hopefuls H.S. Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth crashed out of the $ 550,000 event after losing their respective opening round contests. (ANI)
