Saudi court cancels minor girl’s marriage

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia court in Abu Aresh in the Jizan province cancelled the marriage of a minor girl and referred the marriage registrar to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution (BIPP).

It is reported that the court summoned the marriage registrar who had performed marriage of a minor girl, aged 15 with a man, aged 84 years.

According to the news published in Arab News, the aged would-be husband approached the court against the minor girl who refused to respond to his sexual desires. He also demanded the refund of the dowry amount of SR 90,000.

It is reported that the cases of child marriage are on the increase in Saudi Arabia.

It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Justice of Saudi Arabia had fixed the minimum age for the marriage of a girl at 15 years.
