SBI to hire lesser staff for this fiscal year

New Delhi: State Bank of India made in a statement said it shall not be hiring many new recruits this year as the bank already has employees from the associate banks.

“I don’t think we will be doing too many recruitments. On the clerical side, there will not be any recruitments and on the officers’ side, there will be some towards the end of the year,” moneycontrol.com quoted SBI chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya as saying.

Earlier SBI merged with five associate banks in April, making SBI entering into the elite club of world’s 50 top banks. The five associative banks were State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala and State Bank of Travancore.

The bank in the beginning of 2017 issued notifications of new hiring and also released the list of new recruits. It filled up around 2,313 openings for probationary officers earlier this year.

Arundhati Bhattacharya said her bank has already received employees from associative banks after the merger leaving no vacancy for new recruits. She was quoted saying, “Now that will be adjusted by the end of the year as about 13,000 people have retired and 3,600 have opted for VRS”.

At present, the bank has only openings for probationary officers and junior associates. The report released says, “Its professionals requirement was met through lateral hires and management trainees”, as reported in DC.
