Leader of Opposition in Telangana State Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s judgment reinstating Congress Government in Arunachal Pradesh and described it as a warning bell for TRS Government in Telangana and TDP Government in Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to media persons here, Shabbir Ali said that the Supreme Court’s judgment shows that there was rule of law in the country and no one was allowed to misuse or abuse the law. He said it was a remarkable and historic judgment and the Supreme Court has resorted a government in a State after it had been replaced by a new government. The Supreme Court had given a similar judgment in the past dismissing President’s Rule in Uttarakhand to restore constitutionally elected Congress Government. “Both the judgments of Supreme Court have proved that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Government has misused its powers to dethrone constitutionally elected governments. Modi should resign from his post owing moral responsibility,” he demanded.
Shabbir Ali said that the Supreme Court judgment has revived the hopes of Congress party in getting justice in case of defections by legislators and MPs in Telangana State. “Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan has remained a mute spectator to defection by a whopping 47 MPs, MLAs and MLCs of opposition parties to ruling TRS in a short period of 24 months. On an average, two legislators defected to TRS in open violation of Anti-Defection Law. He did not act on a series of complaints lodged by Congress and other opposition parties. Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary and Council Chairman Swamy Goud too are guilty of inaction on the Disqualification Petitions. We are confident that the Supreme Court will take a serious note of defections and also the inaction by Governor, Speaker and Council Chairman,” he said.
The Congress leader demanded that in view of Supreme Court judgments related to Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh Governments, the Governor should immediately ask Speaker and Chairman to take action against legislators who defected to ruling TRS. “Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao should also realise that power is not eternal. The Supreme Court, through its landmark judgments, has sent a strong message to everyone across the country that no one was above the law. Therefore, KCR should stop influencing the Speaker and Chairman so as to prevent them from performing their duties. Today, Madhusudan Chary and Swamy Goud are only accused of not taking timely action against defectors. If the Supreme Court delivers a judgment against defections, then both will be remembered in history for deliberate violation of Anti-Defection Law only to please the ruling party. They must not act in a partisan manner,” urged Shabbir Ali. (NSS)
