The Supreme Court today refused to hear the bail plea of Kanhaiya Kumar on Friday, and asked the Kanhaiya’s lawyers to approach the Delhi High Court for bail, saying it would send out the wrong message about the capabilities of other courts.
SC asks Kanhaiya Kumar’s lawyers why they have come directly to SC. In responce, the lawyers say that there is a threat to life in Patiala House Court not just for Kanhaiya but also for his lawyers.
His bail petition to the Supreme Court had also cited a perceived threat to his life in the prison where he fears he might be attacked by co-prisoners.
Supreme Court says that once enough security is provided to accused & his lawyer, there should be no problem appearing at Patiala House Court. The court agreed that Kanhaiya’s bail hearing may not be possible at the Patiala House Court and that he may approach the HC.
The court also directed the Centre and the Delhi Police to ensure the safety of Kanhaiya. Kanhaiya Kumar’s lawyer likely to approach Delhi HC today.
Kanhaiya Kumar who was arrested for sedition for allegedly raising anti-national slogans sent to judicial custody till March 2.
