SC set aside Jaipur TADA Court verdict – Exonerates Dr. Jalees Ansari after 23 years

Hyderabad: At last, Supreme Court exonerated Dr. Jalees Ansari after 23 years of legal battle from terrorist charges. Supreme Court set aside the judgment pronounced by Jaipur Special TADA Court which had given 20 years imprisonment on 28th February 2004. Dr. Ansari had filed an appeal in Supreme Court in 2014. He was arrested in 1993 in connection with bomb blast in Hyderabad, Rajasthan and New Delhi. The local court of Ajmer had given him life imprisonment.

Two member bench of Supreme Court consisting of Justice Arjun Kumar Sikri and Justice Rajesh Kumar Agarwal set aside the judgment pronounced by TADA Court of Jaipur.

Dr. Jalees Ansari is a BUMS doctor. He is charged with establishing Islahul Muslimeen Organization after the demolition of Babri Masjid and its members organized bomb blasts in various parts of the country. Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Hyderabad had exonerated him from the bomb blast case in Humayun Nagar, Abids, Nampally and Secunderabad Railway Station. Police had registered 22 Criminal Cases against Dr. Ansari out of which two cases were pending in Supreme Court. In one case, Supreme Court, exonerated him. It is expected that in Ajmer Bomb Blast case also, he would be exonerated.
