Security boosted at Dhaka schools amid threats of attack

The resumption of school session after Eid has been delayed and security has been tightened at several missionary and English medium schools around Dhaka, amid threats of attack.

Police sources and authorities said that some schools received threats of attack. However, the school authorities denied having received any such threats and said they were delaying the resumption of school session to ensure safety of the students, reports the Dhaka Tribune.

Many schools are also working on installing additional security measures on the campuses, as a precaution.
However, a teacher at a renowned English medium school said that their school was second on the list of schools that have been threatened.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police has also increased monitoring at educational institutions, especially at the missionary and English medium schools, but they say it is due to the current situation in the city following the recent terror attacks.

While police denied the claim that some schools received threats, only Mirpur police confirmed that a threat had been reported to them after a missionary school principal filed a general diary with them on July 18 for receiving a death threat.
