Self-proclaimed godman Rampal convicted in murder cases

New Delhi: A court in Haryana has convicted self-proclaimed godman Rampal in two murder cases today.

Nearly 184 km from Delhi, high security and about 2,000 police personnel were stationed in Hisar district to avoid untoward incidents following Rampal’s conviction, NDTV reports.

The court has charged Rampal and 27 of his followers with murder and wrongful confinement after four women and a child were found dead in his Satlok Ashram in Barwala in Hisar on November 19, 2014.

The court has adjourned the sentencing for October 16 and 17. Rampal was arrested in the year 2014 after his 12-acre ashram in Hisar was raided by policemen while his followers protected Rampal using stones, batons and guns.

It was after days-long siege Rampal was caught by the officials.
According to sources police officials in Haryana had said they had taken adequate measures to maintain law and order.
