Sensex sheds more than 300 points

Mumbai:A benchmark index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex), tanked 302.33 points, or 1.22 percent, during the afternoon session on Thursday on weak global cues and profit-taking.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading lower by 79.65 points, or 1.06 percent at 7,452.15 points.

The Sensex of the BSE, which opened at 24,815.70 points, was trading at 24,491.63 points (at 12.32 p.m.) in the afternoon session — down 302.33 points, or 1.22 percent from the previous day’s close at 24,793.96 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 24,817.48 points and a low of 24,488.98 points in the trade so far.

Sector-wise, the S&P BSE capital goods index dropped by 1.66 percent, IT index slipped by 1.50 percent, fast moving consumer goods index fell by 1.44 percent and energy index went down by 1.32 percent.
