Seven dead, two injured in Mumbai-Pune Expressway car-dumper collision

Mumbai: At least seven were killed and two others were reported injured after a car and a dumper collided on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Monday.

The accident reportedly occurred near Lodhivai village off the Pune Mumbai Expressway.

Police and eyewitnesses said that the collision took place after the tyre of the Toyota Qualis burst and forced it to jump a lane, before crashing into the dumper that was coming from the opposite side.

According to local reports, five of the persons killed belonged to the Dhonde family, and two to the Pawar family. They were returning from their native place in Satara after Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

The deceased have been identified as Dharmaraj Dhonde, Vedant Dhonde, Sunita Dhonde, Ashwini Dhonde, Shubham Pawar, Sakhubai Pawar and Chitra Dhonde.

The injured are reportedly being treated at the MGM Hospital in Vashi.
