Seven Maruti Models In Ten Best-Selling Cars Last Month: Industry Body

New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India maintained its leadership position in the domestic passenger vehicle (PV) market last month with seven of its models featuring among the top ten selling brands.

According to the latest data from industry body SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers), in the top ten best-selling passenger vehicles, Maruti’s Alto retained the top position in April with sales of 16,583 units, as against 21,531 units in April 2015.

The company’s premium hatchback Swift was the second best-selling model with sales of 15,661 units as compared to 18,444 units in April last year.

With sales of 15,323 units last month, Maruti Suzuki India’s compact car Wagon R was third. It had stood at the fourth position in the year-ago period with sales of 13,872 units.

Rival Hyundai’s premium hatchback Elite i20 stood at the fourth position last month with sales of 11,147 units. The company had sold 12,425 units of the vehicle in April 2015.

Maruti Suzuki India’s compact sedan DZire stood at the fifth spot with sales of 10,083 units last month. It was at the third position in April 2015 with sales of 16,490 units.

The Grand i10 stood at the sixth position with sales of 9,840 units last month. Renault’s entry level model Kwid 9,795 stood at the seventh slot with 9,795 units in sales.

Maruti Suzuki’s premium hatchback Baleno came eighth with sales of 9,562 units. With sales of 8,548 units, its compact car Celerio was at the ninth spot.

The Omni van was at the tenth position with 8,356 units in sales.

Honda Cars India’s mid-sized sedan City, Mahindra’s Bolero and Hyundai’s Eon failed to make it to the top ten list. They had featured in the top ten passenger vehicle list in April 2015.
