Shabbir Ali dominated Council during budget session

The main opposition Congress party was able to emerge stronger during the budget session of Telangana State Legislative Council which concluded on Thursday.

In 15-days of its functioning, Council sat for 56 hours and 21 minutes. Of this, TRS MLCs consumed 32 minutes and 34 hours, the Congress legislators spoke for 12 hours and 32 minutes followed by MIM (2 Hr – 44 Mts); BJP (2 Hr – 1 Mts) and PRTU (2 Hr – 6 Mts). The nominated members spoke for 4 hours and 24 minutes.

During the session, Leader of Opposition Mohammed Ali Shabbir spoke for a record 5 Hours and 3 minutes. Interestingly, Leader of the House and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao spoke for only 1 hour 53 minutes in the council.

In terms of overall time consumed by the leaders in both Assembly and Council, the Chief Minister is on top with 11 Hours and 1 Minutes (9 Hrs – 8 Mts in Assembly and 1 Hr – 53 Mts) in Council followed by Mohammed Ali Shabbir (5 Hr – 3 Mts in Council) and MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi (4 Hr – 17 Mts in Assembly). Surprisingly, Leader of Opposition in Assembly K. Jana Reddy stood fourth by speaking for 4 Hrs – 14 Mts.

The council lost 14 minutes due to deviations and disturbances. Of this, 10 minutes were lost due to Congress while 4 minutes were lost due to TRS. (INN)
