Finding fault with the Cyberabad police for filing false cases against two sons of TPCC spokesperson G Niranjan, former Minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy has asked the Director General of Police Anurag Sharma to order an inquiry into the whole episode and get the case withdrawn and take appropriate action against those responsible for the wrong-doing. If such incidents happen in the capital city, one can well image the situation elsewhere in the State, Shashidhar Reddy added. .
Marri Shashidhar Reddy today addressed a letter to the DGP in this regard. He stated that cases were being booked against innocent persons in general. He stated that specifically a case was booked u/s 353 IPC against G. Raghavender and Rakesh, who are Congress activists and sons of senior Congress leader from Hyderabad G. Niranjan, who is a former Chairman of the AP Khadi & Village Industries Board and General Secretary of APCC and is presently a Spokesperson of the TPCC.
The case was booked on a complaint made by a local Sub-Inspector S. Krishna. It was inquired into by another SI K. Krishna. Four witnesses, who were examined were all police constables and the officer responsible for accepting the complaint and filing chargesheet (No 910) was the CI of Sanathnagar PS under Cyberabad Police Commissionerate.
This was done on the basis of what happened on October 12, the day of the procession of Durga Mata, a day after Dusshera festival. The procession was passing by their house at around 11.30 pm and the older boy Raghavender came out to greet them. Since he knew the SI, he walked up to greet him but the SI was very rude and also abusive in the full view of all those present. Both the boys are highly educated with one of them having studied in the USA. They are law- abiding citizens and have been very active socially. The representation to the Home Minister was signed by over 100 residents of Avanti Nagar Colony, Moti Nagar under Sanathnagar PS limits. It was endorsed by Home Minister to the ACP Balanagar, asking him to inquire into the matter and do the needful. However, the inquiry conducted totally ignored the facts as mentioned in the representation submitted to the Home Minister.
“The wrong-doing was represented to both the Cyberabad Police Commissioner and the local DCP. It is apparent that no further inquiry was conducted to do justice and set the record straight. The charge-sheet filed will not stand judicial scrutiny. However, this kind of highhanded behavior by the police to book cases in this unprovoked manner against innocent people cannot be tolerated. Under the circumstances you may order for a thorough enquiry into the whole matter, get the case withdrawn and take appropriate action against those responsible for the wrong-doing. If such incidents happen in the capital city, one can well image the situation elsewhere in the State”, Shashidhar Reddy stated in his letter. (NSS)
