Shikhar Dhawan reported for suspect bowling action during 4th Test vs South Africa

Dubai: Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has been reported with a suspect bowling action during the fourth Test against South Africa, which the host won in New Delhi on Monday.

“The match officials’ report, which was handed over to the India team management, cited concerns about the legality of the 30-year-old’s off-spin deliveries,” ICC stated in a media release.

“Dhawan’s bowling action will now be scrutinised further under the ICC process relating to suspected illegal bowling actions reported in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. He is required to undergo testing within 14 days, and during this period, Dhawan is permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the testing are known,” the release further state.

Dhawan bowled three overs of off-spin during the South African second innings in the recently concluded Delhi Test match. Dhawan gave away 9 runs in three overs.

Since he is not even a part-time spinner in the real sense, the ICC diktat should not be a big problem as the Indian captains Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni do not need him as a bowler in their larger scheme of things.
