Shivaji should get a prominent place in curriculum: Hosabale

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sah Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale today said the history of Maratha warrior king should be given more prominence in the education curriculum.

Speaking at the launch of the English version of “Shivaji, Swaraj & Suraj” written by member Anil Madhav Dave, the Joint General-Secretary also said Mughal emperor Akbar occupies more space in Indian history books than Chhatrapati Shivaji.

“Our history books have more about Akbar in more detail and for Shivaji they dedicate just a paragraph. Shivaji has not been understood. Shivaji has not been read and not evaluated properly in our academic circles.

“But unfortunately our text books and curriculum have not taken the important aspects of Shivaji. Today, education needs to dwell up on such personalities and include in the curriculum so that the present-day generation would be able to know about him,” Hosabale said.

When asked about whether RSS is suggesting the Government on changes in the curriculum, he said the organisation has already come out with certain resolutions as far as education is concerned.

“Why should RSS suggest the Government on making changes in education. There are people who have been doing this. RSS would not suggest on education policy or foreign policy,” he told PTI on the sidelines.

The RSS office-bearer also felt that many more books need to come on Shivaji to enlighten the current generations on various aspects such as leadership qualities, administrative capabilities and other Good Governance practices.
