Refused to chant ‘Shri Ram Ki jai’, Pastor thrashed, pregnant wife doused in petrol

Raipur: In a shocking incident, a pastor in Chattisgarh was thrashed and his pregnant wife was doused in petrol by right-wing Hindu group after the couple refused to chant ‘’Shri Ram Ki jai.’

As per News18 reports, the incident happened in Karanji Matagudi Para village of Tokapal Tehsil, Bastar in Chhattisgarh.

The assailants assaulted Pastor Dinbandhu Sameli, his 7-month pregnant wife and daughter Roushni Vidya on Sunday, but managed to escape when the mob tried to set them on fire and informed the police.

The Church was gutted and the Bible desecrated by the unidentified men armed with knife, hammer and sword on motorcycles shouting “Jai Shri Ram slogans.

According to President of the Chhattisgarh Christian Association Arun Pannalal, an FIR had been registered against “unidentified persons,” as the attackers belonged to the nearby areas and finding them is not so difficult.

He added,”We have firm belief that these types of elements get protection from Vishwa Hindu Parishad.”

He said,”Increasing attack on the Christians is part of the well-planned conspiracy, we condemned it and demanded impartial probe and speedy investigation in the case.”

Bastar region was in the news in March 2015, when in response to an aggressive campaign by the VHP, Chhattisgarh Panchayati Raj Act had had adopted resolutions to ban the entry of non-Hindu missionaries, especially Christians and their religious propaganda, prayers and speeches.
