Shuttlers Srikanth, Kashyap advance to German Open third round

Mulheim an der Ruhr (Germany) : Top Indian shuttlers Kidambi Srikanth and Parupalli Kashyap produced contrasting performances to progress through to the third round of the men’s singles event at the USD 120,000 German Grand Prix Gold.

Sixth seeded Srikanth overcame a spirited challenge from Erik Meijs to claim a 15-21, 21-6, 21-16 win over the Dutchman in a hard-fought contest that lasted 48 minutes on Wednesday night.

Kashyap, on the other hand, outclassed Ireland’s Joshua Magee 21-12, 21-11 in the second round contest.

Meanwhile, PV Sindhu advanced to the second round of the women’s singles after defeating American opponent Schafer Rong in straight sets.

In the men’s double event, Manu Attri and B. Sumeeth Re crossed the opening hurdle by defeating British duo of Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis 21-16, 19-21, 21-17. (ANI)
