Siachen avalanche: TN Assembly condoles soldiers’ death

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Assembly today condoled the death of 10 soldiers, including four from the state, in an avalanche in Siachen Glacier.

A condolence resolution mourning the death of the personnel was moved by Speaker P Dhanapal and a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect for them.

On February 3, 10 soldiers belonging to the 19th Battalion of the Madras Regiment were buried under several feet of snow after an avalanche in northern Siachen glacier.

The soldiers from Tamil Nadu were Havildar Elumalai (Vellore), Lance Havildar S Kumar (Theni), Sepoy Ganesan (Madurai), and Sepoy N Ramamoorthy (Krishnagiri).

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had announced a solatium of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the four jawans.
