Sidhu suspends SDO Sewerage Board on corruption charges

Gurdaspur: Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today suspended a sub-divisional officer of water supply and sewerage board here on charges of dereliction of duty.

He took the decision during his visit to the border town of Dera Baba Nanak in the district.

He was here to review the various development projects undertaken by the previous government led by Parkash Singh Badal.

Sidhu said SDO Jugal Kishore was negligent in the construction of a treatment plant in Dera Baba Nanak and that its polluted water was entering the agriculture field of farmers, destroying the crops.

He reiterated that the present government led by Captain Amarinder Singh was committed to review the various development protects undertaken by the previous dispensation.

Giving an example of the Jaica project in Amritsar, related to sewerage in the holy city, Sidhu said the previous government had declared it a Rs 400 crore-worth project whereas omly Rs 100 crore was spent on it.

Sidhu said he has called for a vigilance probe into the misuse of funds to the tune of Rs 300 crore.
