Sonia should fulfil Rajiv Gandhi’s wish for Ram temple: VHP

New Delhi: Describing Congress president Sonia Gandhi a “good wife”, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Friday urged her to come forward for Ram temple’s construction which her late husband and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi once wished.

“Rajiv Gandhi wanted construction of Ram temple. He once launched his election campaign from Ayodhya, promising ‘Ram Rajya’ across the country. Sonia ji should understand his wish,” VHP’s spokesperson Surendra Jain told IANS.

“Sonia ji is a good wife, and a good wife needs to fulfil the wishes of her late husband,” he said.

The VHP leader, however, also said the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya is possible only through a law passed by parliament.

“The VHP is of the view that construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya is possible only through a law passed by parliament of India. All the political parties should reconsider their stand on the issue,” he said.

“The government should bring a law in this regard and it should be passed unanimously,” he added.
