South African skipper credits seamers for series win over India

Even as his side pocketed the Twenty20 International (T20I) series against India, South Africa’s T20I skipper Faf du Plessis, crediting his bowlers for the win, said India will come hard at them during the five match One-Day International (ODI) series beginning on Sunday.

The visitors clinched the three-match series 2-0 after the third and final match was called off without a ball being bowled due to rain and soggy outfield at the Eden Gardens here.

“Winning the T20 series is a huge achievement and we will take a lot of confidence into the ODI series. But saying that its new competition, India will be fresh, they will like to prove a point in the first game,” said du Plessis.

Even as he credited batsman J.P. Duminy for the series win, du Plessis said the South African pacers stood out.

“To bowl out India for 90 odd doesn’t happen. They are an incredibly strong batting line up. So if that happens, you really got to be proud of your skills. So for me the players that stand out probably are the four seamers,” he said.

Duminy, who was declared man of the tournament, dubbed the series win a s great achievement.

“It is always a tough series to play India in India. They have got a formidable record here in T20 cricket here. So that’s a good performance from us going into the world cup in a few months time,” said Duminy.

Expressing disappointment over the game being abandoned, the south paw said the upcoming ODI series will be hard-fought.

“It’s going to be hard fought series, it is going to be very exciting and we are looking for it,” added Duminy.
