Sri Lankan Navy arrests four Tamil fishermen, detains boat

New Delhi: The Sri Lankan Navy arrested four Tamil fishermen and detained one fishing boat when they were fishing near international waters last night.

According to the sources, the fishermen have been taken to Mannar camp.

The fishermen were arrested from Rameswaram, while fishing near Kactheevu islands.

Sri Lankan Navy had earlier arrested six fishermen from Pudukottai Jagadapattinam on Sunday. Tamil fishermen are urging the immediate release of 47 Tamil fishermen already languishing in Lankan jail.

They had also urged the government to take steps for the release of 57 fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to initiate steps to release 47 Tamil fishermen in Lankan Jail along with 57 fishing boats. (ANI)
