SSCJRV meeting at Gandhi Bhavan demanding the implementation of National SC commission orders regarding Rohith Vemula

Hyderabad: Demanding the arrest of the culprits Hyderabad Central University Vice-chancellor Apparao Podile, Union Ministers Bandaru Dattatreya, Smruti Irani, Telangana Legislative Council member Ramchnadar Rao and HCU ABVP activist   Shushil Kumar, who were allegedly responsible for the murder of Rohit Vemula according to the SC/ST prevention of atrocities Act, Struggle & Solidarity Committee for Justice for Rohit Vemula urged the people to join in the meeting to be held on August 29 at 10am at Prakasham hall, Gandhi Bhavan, Nampally demanding the implementation of National SC commission orders.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Indian Constitution architect Dr BR Ambedkar’s grandson Prakash Ambedkar, Prof K Laxminarayana and others alleged that Rohith Vemula, a dalit research scholar at the University of Hyderabad along with other four dalit research scholars were socially boycotted by the RSS, BJP and ABVP forces including the Union ministry by pressurizing Vice Chancellor.

They said that resisting the social boycott the dalit students have erected Velivada and protested for over 15 days. However even after15 days when the government did not respond to the students’ protests Rohith Vemula committed suicide by hanging himself in the hostel room on January 17, 2016. Following the death case under SC/ST prevention of atrocities Act was filed against the VC, Apparao, Union Ministers, Bandaru Dattatreya and Smriti Irani, MLC, Ramchandar Rao and ABVP leader Shushil Kumar.

They said that even though 7 months have passed since the case has been filed, the Telangana police has been delaying to act and to arrest the culprits under the SC/ST atrocity act by involving in the false propaganda of declaring Rohith Vemula as a non-SC. District Collector of Guntur in his report submitted to the National SC Commission has declared that Rohith belongs to SC community precisely Mala and also directed the Cyberabad Police to complete the enquiry and arrest the culprits. Even though 15 days have passed since the National SC Commission has directed the Cyberabad Police, no action has been initiated by the Telangana police. In the same regard the Chief Minister of Telangana, K Chandrasekhar Rao has already made an announcement four months ago in the Telangana Assembly that he would talk to the central government and see to it that the justice is delivered to the family of Rohith Vemula.

They alleged that the response of the Telangana government evidently reflects the discriminatory attitude of Telangana government towards the Dalits and its pro upper caste nature. KCR government’s policy in concern with Rohith Vemula clearly reveals its collusion with the Coastal Andhra Capitalists namely Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu, Sujana Chowdary and the central government. TRS government which has come to power by using the slogan of self-respect of Telangana people is now mortgaging the self respect to the Coastal Andhra capitalists as well as the central government, they charged.

Demanding the implementation of National SC commission report, they said that the Solidarity Struggle Committee for Justice for Rohith Vemula has planned to stage a peaceful Dharna at Indira Park on 29, August 2016. The Telangana Police has categorically denied permission to the Dharna. “This is not the first that the Telangana Police has denied permission to the committee demanding justice to Rohith. The police have denied permission earlier on the birth anniversaries of social revolutionaries Mahatma Jyoti Rao Phule and Dr.Baba Saheb Ambedkar” they alleged.

The attitude of the Telangana Police in delaying the arrest as well as denying the permission to the struggle committee clearly reveals that they were siding with killers of Rohith Vemula and were involved in saving the Coastal Andhra Kamma Capitalists Venkaiah Naidu, Chandrababu Naidu and Sujana Chowdary, they claimed.

They said that the Committee however has shifted its venue to the Praksham Hall located in Gandhi Bhavan at Nampally on 29 August, 2016. The committee requests the people of Telangana, democrats, students and dalits to participate in the meeting and make is a huge success.

Prakash Ambedkar (Advocate and RPI), Dr.Anand Teltumbde (Professor IIT, Kharagpur), Theestha Sethlwad, Radhika Vemula (Mother of Rohith Vemula), Prof. K.Laxmi Narayana, B.Laxmaiah (KNPS), Prashanath Dontha (ASA), Arunanak (DSU), Arpita (JAC, UoH), Kota Srinivas (TVS), Azaruddhin (SIO), Satish Kumar (TSA), Rajat (Pehel) and others will participate in the meeting to be held on August 29 at Prakasham Hall, Gandhi Bhavan.
