Statue of Sri Madhwacharya installed in Udupi

Mangaluru: A 32-feet tall monolithic statue of Sri Madhwacharya, the celebrated 13th century preacher and proponent of Dwaita (dualism) theory of Vedanta, has been installed at Kunjarugiri hillock near Udupi.

The work on installing the statue was initiated in 2013 by Sri Vidyadheeshateertha Swamiji of Palimar Math in Udupi and heads of other maths across the country.

Sri Subudhendrateertha Swamiji, spiritual head of Raghavendra Swamy Math at Mantralaya and Sri Vishwapriyateertha Swamiji of Admar Math and other priests were present at the installation ceremony yesterday along with Sri Vidyadheeshateertha Swamiji.

The statue has been installed atop an eight ft Panipeetha (pedestal) placed on a 40-ft high concrete structure.

The celebrations in connection with the installation began with a procession on May 7 from Pajaka, birthplace of Sri Madhwacharya, two km from Kunjarugiri to site of the statue.

The Brahmabhisheka of the statue would be performed tomorrow.
