Stones pelted at RSS worker Sharath’s funeral procession

Mangalore: Stones were pelted at the funeral procession of RSS activist Sharat at Kaikamba near BC Road on Saturday afternoon. The 28-year-old Sangh activist was brutally assaulted by unidentified persons on July 4. He was admitted to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday night.

The Sangh Parivar workers too had pelted the stones at miscreants in retaliation. As a result of which a few shops, ATM and few vehicles were damaged. The police had to take help of batons to take the situation under control, reports TH.

Thousands of RSS members took part in the procession amid tight police security. However, the remains of the deceased Sharath were taken from the hospital in Mangaluru to his native Sajipa in Bantwal taluk at 10.30 am.

All the shops and other commercial settings remained closed by the police on Saturday on BC Road. Vehicular movement on Mangaluru-Bengaluru through BC Road town was also been hampered following communal tensions.
