After a long time, the Osmania University (OU) campus witnessed a curfew-like situation for the entire day on International Human Rights Day as the city police shut both gates of the university campus and barred entry of outsiders including media personnel.
However students in various universities across the state ate beef on Thursday, in order to show solidarity with the organizers of beef festival at Osmania University campus.
Support also poured in from members of Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika, who went to Delhi to protest. Nearly 50 students from Osmania University, Kakatiya University and University of Hyderabad ate beef biryani at the historical Red Fort in Delhi.
“It had already been planned to celebrate the festival outside if it is foiled in the university,” said State president of TVV N. Mahesh, on phone from Delhi.
It is to be noted that nearly 500 students from various universities had planned to participate in the beef festival at OU. However, due to heavy policing, students of English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu), hold beef festivals on their own campuses.
A total of 70 students representing Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika, TSJAC and other student organizations expressed solidarity with their beleaguered comrades at the Osmania University.
