Sub-inspector injured after assailants allegedly opened fire at a police jeep

New Delhi: A police sub-inspector was injured when some assailants allegedly opened fire at a police jeep in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district with the police suspecting that wanted criminal Anandpal Singh was behind the incident.

Ladu Singh, SHO of Jaswantgarh police station, was injured last night when some persons sitting in a Bolero opened fire at the jeep, while he was on patrolling duty with three other policemen, Narottam Lal Meena, Circle officer of Ladnu, said.

Police suspect that Anandpal Singh, carrying a reward of Rs one lakh and wanted in many cases, might have opened fire from the vehicle, as the incident took place near his house in Saanvrad village.

The assailants opened fire when the Sub-inspector along with three other policemen approached the vehicle, Meena said, adding, Ladu Singh was admitted to a hospital with bullet injuries.

“The border of the village has been sealed and an intense combing operation is on in the area,” the Circle Officer said.

Anandpal Singh had escaped from police custody in September last year while being taken to Ajmer prison from a court in Parbatsar in Nagaur.

He is accused in two dozen criminal cases in Didwana, Jaipur, Sikar, Sujangarh, Churu, Sanganer among others.

Inspector General, Ajmer, Malini Agrawal said Damodar

Singh, uncle of Anandpal Singh, has been arrested after initial interrogation as he was facilitating the miscreants who opened fire at the police jeep.

“The vehicle was in front of Damodar’s house and he was facilitating the accused sitting inside the vehicle. When police approached near the vehicle, the miscreants opened fire and fled,” she said.

“We are verifying who were inside the vehicle. It is suspected that Anandpal Singh and his brother, who is also an absconding criminal, were there in the Bolero,” the IG said.

Other family members of Anandpal Singh are also being interrogated.
