Supreme Court to decide whether ‘Sardarji Jokes’ can be banned

New Delhi: Jokes on Sardars have always caused much amusement, but now the Supreme Court decided to examine whether “Sardarji jokes” are derogatory and if they need to be banned.

A bench headed by Justice T. S. Thakur on Friday agreed to hear a PIL which was filed by a woman lawyer. In her PIL she pleaded the Court to ban jokes on Sardars which are projecting the members of the community unintelligent, stupid and idiot. She also question that why only Sardars in the jokes.

In her petition, she pleaded the court to ban 5000 odd websites targeting the community with jokes against the Sikhs. She said that it is a violation of Article 21 of the constitution of India.
