Surgery with diamond cutting blade performed at OGH

Rotational Atherectomy was performed for the first time in any government hospital of India. A team of doctors, led by cardiologist Dr. Syed Imamuddin successfully performed first of its kind Rotational Atherectomy heart operation using a diamond cutting blade inside a blocked artery of a 75-year-old patient, Syed, at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) in Hyderabad. Syed was suffering from problems due to a blockade in the coronary artery which was blocking blood flow in to the heart.

The surgery which would have otherwise cost Rs. 5 to 7 lakh in Super specialty hospitals, was performed free of cost at Osmania Hospital. The surgery was carried out from 9 am to 5 pm by Dr. Inamuddin and his team.

Besides Dr. G.V. S. Moorthy, superintendent of OGH, staff belonging to health and medicine congratulated Dr. Inamuddin. Dr. Mohammed Inamuddin is the son-in-law of noted gynecologist Dr. Zaibunnisa and famous builder Syed Ali Akber.
