Swaraj seeks report from Indian consulate on death of workers

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has sought details from the Indian consulate in Saudi Arabia about reports of death of some workers from Punjab, MEA Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.

Swarup said India has been facing the problem of getting mortal remains of its citizens and the issue has been raised time and again with the Saudi authorities.

The minister has sought the report from the mission into the matter, he added.

Yesterday, after seeing reports about some families in Punjab awaiting the mortal remains of their loved ones, Swaraj had tweeted, “I have seen…Report reg some workers from Punjab who have unfortunately died in Saudi Arabia. Send me details. I will have this done at the earliest.”
