Swati Maliwal says it’s a ‘minor technical glitch’, will be resolved

New Delhi: Swati Maliwal, whose appointment as chief of Delhi Commission for Women has triggered a fresh round of confrontation between Lt Governor Najeeb Jung and AAP government, on Wednesday said she respects the “constitutionality” of LG’s office and hoped the “minor” issue will be resolved.

Jung had yesterday rejected Maliwal’s appointment as chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women, saying his approval had not been sought on it.

“I think this is a minor technical glitch because what is being said is that the file (my appointment) was not sent to LG’s office. I think it will get resolved. It is not a very major issue,” she told reporters.

30-year-old Maliwal, who took over as DCW chief two days back, said, “We totally respect the constitutionality of the LG’s office and will abide by any communication from him.”

“In case the Delhi government decides to withdraw the notification of my appointment, we will abide by it,” she said, hoping that the LG will give his approval as “my credentials speak for” eligibility for the post.

Maliwal is wife of Aam Aadmi Party leader Navin Jaihind and has been an advisor to Kejriwal on public grievances and handles his Janta Samwad. She has been associated with the AAP chief since India Against Corruption (IAC) days.

“We are going to GB road and will try to meet women there,” an unfazed Maliwal said while talking about her day’s programme.

In its letter to CM office, the LG’s office said that it did not recognise the appointment because LG’s approval was not sought as per rules.
