T-AAP condemns attack on Tribal Rights activist

Hyderabad: Telangana Aam Aadmi Party has condemned attack on Chattisgarh Adivasi/Tribal Rights Activist Soni Sori, who is the coordinator for AAP in the Bastar Division and had contested in the 2014 elections.
The attack on her had taken place after the recent hounding and forcing out of Malini Subramaniam and other journalists, lawyers and activists fighting for and defending the rights of the Adivasis. “This is a part of concerted and continued efforts to subvert the rule of law in the area”, observed Telangana AAP spokesperson Prof. PL Vishweshwar Rao.
In a pressnote here today, Prof. Vishweshwar Rao stated Soni Sori was not allowed to lodge a complaint against controversial IPS officer and Bastar Range Inspector General of Police, SRP Kalluri who had been threatening her. The attack took place when she was returning home after attending a press conference arranged by the lawyers against various incidents of police intimidation. Her attackers warned her to stop complaining against the IG if not her daughter would also be attacked.
The attack on Ms. Soni Sori is pre-planned and open intimidation and threats to Adivasi activists, who are being silenced in a planned manner. Prof. Vishweshwar Rao demanded that the government immediately arrest the assailants. (NSS)
