‘T’ State Medical Counselling Begins

Counselling for admission to the Government and private medical colleges in Telangana State commenced today.

The commencement of the process was delayed by about two hours as the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists disrupted it at the JNTU Hyderabad counselling centre and the Osmania University campus centre, protesting against the increased fee structure and alleged loss of seats for BC, SC and ST categories.

In the morning, the ABVP activists closed the gates and didn’t allow the candidates to enter the counselling hall. Police arrived later and shifted the agitating ABVP activists to the police stations.

The ABVP was agitating against the decision of the Government to increase the fee in the “B” category seats, from Rs. 2.40 lakh per annum earlier to Rs. 9 lakh per annum.

Counselling is scheduled to be held for nine days in three centres in Telangana – JNTUH Counselling Centre, Kukatpally; PGRR Distance Education Counselling Centre, OU Campus and Kakatiya University Counselling Centre, Warangal apart from Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada. Candidates can attend at any of these centres.(NSS)
