Talasani backs jewellers’ stir, joins protest rally

Hyderabad: Commercial Taxes Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav has expressed solidarity with the agitating jewelers on Monday.
Jewellers in all parts of the country were agitating against the imposition of Excise Tax by the Union government. The jewelers organized a rally at Pot Market and General Bazaar in Secunderabad.
Speaking on the occasion, Talasani said it was unfortunate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who opposed imposition of Excise Tax on gold business when he was in Opposition, was now keeping silent on the issue though the jewelers were on warpath since March 2. The jewelers were bemoaning that they were incurring heavy losses due to 1 percent Excise Tax on sale of gold ornaments.
Talasani flagged off the rally of the jewelers at General Bazaar and walked along with them till the end. The rally went through Mahankali Street, RP Road, Pot Market, Station Road and ended at Clock Tower. Corporators Aruna Srinivas Goud, Akula Roopa Harikrishna, Pot Market Gold Businessmen’s Association president Mohanlal Jain, general secretary Jagadeesh Prasad, former corporator Athili Mallikarjun Goud, TRS division president Nagulu and others participated in the rally.
